NBC makes deal with Apple for 9 new shows for iTunes

December 6, 2005

Sorry I could not get this news out any earlier, but I couldn’t write an article when the announcement happened.

Anyway, looks like Apple has struck a deal with the National Broadcasting Company to sell multiple shows from NBC, Sci-Fi channel, USA, and some other episodes of old classic shows. The shows that are on iTunes include: Law & Order, The Office, Surface, The Tonight Shows with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O’Brien. The classics that NBC will be selling are called “Vintage” and will include one show per decade from the 50’s to the 80’s. These shows include Alfred Hitchcock Presents, Dragnet, Adam-12, and Knight Rider.

I find it kind of ironic that NBC signed with Apple, since they are really close to Microsoft (MSNBC). I think Apple really has it made, and I’m sure that soon, many more broadcasters will sign on with Apple. I can tell Apple is trying to keep that iPod momentum going, and they are doing a great job by using video content. I can’t wait when you can buy episodes of your favorite shows, and then you can watch them on demand, in the living room and one the go.

I still want to see more deals come, and maybe at MacWorld, Apple will make deals with some more broadcasters, like ESPN, FOX, and possibly CBS. Thank goodness we have more choices than just Lost and Desperate Housewives now!
