Predictions for Safari 3.0

January 2, 2006

Safari 2.0 needs a lot of improvement, so hopefully Safari 3.0 will fix the issues. Safari 2.0 introduced RSS capability, a growing and necessary feature in all browsers. Internet Explorer 7 is supposed to add this feature, along with many bugs in IE.

I would guess that Safari 3.0 will finally get rid of its metal look, since iTunes has shed its metal look, and it looks as if Apple is going to consolidate all of the separate themes in Mac OS X to one unified theme. I would also suspect that Apple will finally change Safari to have better text editing, such as bold, italics, etc. If Apple could somehow make web surfing faster, because it seems to be slower than other browsers, such as Camino and Shiira.

For the past few months I have been using Firefox as my browser of choice. I do find Safari faster for browsing but after adding some extensions to Firefox it makes it hard to go back to Safari.

Maybe the update to Safari will add the ability to install extensions.

Safari is so much faster than Firefox – I find FF on the mac to be irritating and clunky – I use it at work when I’m forced to use a PC but on a Mac it’s not for me. I haven’t used some of the newer browsers – at present Safari does me fine for general-purpose Internet use.
