Apple February 22 Special Event invitation probably fake

February 5, 2006

My version of fake. I made this on Illustrator using Apple’s Airport Express photo. Just to prove that anyone can do this in 10 minutes.

The fake invitation floating around Flickr.

Someone on Flickr seems to think that he is funny by placing a fake picture of an invitation that doesn’t to an Apple Special event exist. Here are my points to prove why it is fake.

  • Apple wouldn’t use the terms, “Apple Special Event”, more like “One More Thing…”.
  • It doesn’t make sense why the Apple logo is crooked, and the text is not.
  • Apple wouldn’t use an image of a product that they were planning to release, more like a little hint. The reason why the last Apple Special Event had a curtain in the background, was because of Front Row. They didn’t actually have a picture of a remote, just a curtain to symbolize a theater.
  • There is too much white space wasted on the right-hand side.
  • The person who submitted the photo has other photos of poor Photoshop jobs and some fake rumors, such as a widescreen iPod.
  • The details on the bottom-left corner are blurred. He didn’t do a great job of blurring, it seems as if he wanted to make sure that someone could barely read it.
  • The picture in the background is just a picture of an Airport Express, not anything new.
  • But, what if this actually was a true invitation, and there really was a Special Event on February 22nd? Maybe Apple’s just tricking us out, or maybe they just hired a poor Photoshop guy. But I highly doubt it…

    1. Apple Special Event - Feb 22nd 2006, fake? at the mini Blog says:

[…] UPDATE: I’ve had some reports that this is fake. The Appleology blog seems to think so too, and points out numerous good reasons why it most likely is a fake. Firstly “Apple wouldn’t use the terms, “Apple Special Eventâ€?, more like “One More Thing…â€?. ” and “Apple wouldn’t use an image of a product that they were planning to release, more like a little hint. The reason why the last Apple Special Event had a curtain in the background, was because of Front Row. They didn’t actually have a picture of a remote, just a curtain to symbolize a theater.“. There are other reasons, and the one I think is most valid is the fact that “The person who submitted the photo has other photos of poor Photoshop jobs and some fake rumors, such as a widescreen iPod.” [link]   Listen to this podcast […]
