Recent iTunes Store Connection Issues

iTunes Connection ProblemsFor the past few days the iTunes Store hasn’t been accessible for many (including myself) across the States and around the globe. Users experiencing this connectivity issue are making their voice be heard on several threads on the Apple Discussion forums. The threads haven’t reached any form of conclusion on why this is happening and when or if Apple will fix the problem. So far no specific determination on what could be causing the problem.

When attempting to connect to the Store, the connection times out when the message “Accessing iTunes Store” appears. Sometimes iTunes will display its cache and display a Store as it appeared last time you successfully connected. But once you click on a broken link or image, iTunes will recognize it can’t connect and display an error message (similar to image above).

Apple has yet to release a statement and come out with an appropriate excuse (or an appropriate error message) on what’s causing the problem. Many angry iTunes users make the point that Apple should at least have an error message explaining to the user that the Store is currently down and to try again later. As this has caused major confusion and inconvenience for all of us, some in the middle of purchasing a song were also effected and they were not able to finish their downloads. Hopefully Apple is close to correcting the issue and refund incomplete purchases made during the downtime.

I’m curious, can you connect to the iTunes Store? If so, maybe you can help us determine why some cannot connect to the iTunes Store.

    You’re lucky, I still can’t connect to the Store and looks like many others can’t either.

    This is interesting how some of us can connect and some can’t. Can anyone else connect?

    UPDATE: I can connect. However, I purchased a $20 iTunes certificate for myself from the online Apple Store via e-mail. I clicked the Redeem Now link in the e-mail, but iTunes says on the redeem page “We are having server difficulties. Please try again later.” Strange…

    This is actually a Time Warner/Roadrunner ISP problem. A server owned by a third party called Level 3 that is part of TW’s system is down. It also is possibly affecting any other ISP that routes their connectivity service through this source. Unfortunately Apple are taking heat for a problem that isn’t theirs.

    I just IM’ed the technical staff at Roadrunner here in Columbus, Ohio. They are very aware of this problem but gave me this response to pass on to others:
    “It appears that Apple and it’s host, Level 3.net, are having issues that are beyond Road Runners control. The disruptions and issues that customers are experiencing are caused when you leave the Road Runner network and enter the Level 3 network. For further assistance, you can either contact Apple at http://www.apple.com, or Level 3 at 1-877-453-8353 or by email at ipaddressing@level3.com. ”

    Hopefully, Apple will post something on this matter soon!!!

    When I was able to reconnect over the weekend I went under “store” in itunes and selected “check for purchases” and all the songs I bought before the disruption reappeared in my download menu and completed theire transfer. Hopefully the same will work for the rest of you, if your were in the middle of a purchase.

    I can’t connect to the iTunes store or get CD song titles. I keep getting an error code -3231, but I’ve searched several lists of Apple error codes, and there is no -3231.

    Go to an archive website like oldapps.com and download and older version, I used 7.0.1 and it works fine. Make sure you completely uninstall the latest version.

    Have not been able to connect to iTunes for 2 weeks. When run diagnositics the report says that the Date and Time of my computer is wrong, but, it is actually correct. Downloaded iTunes 7.4.2, but still did not work.

    To solve the unable to connect to the itunes store check network connection problem i had to delete norton and then downloaded mcafee. After that I was able to connect to Itunes store again My thought is that was the problem…… but then again what do i know

    I can connect to iTunes if I hop on my neighbor’s unsecured network. But the minute I get back onto mine, I cannot connect. We are in Tokyo and have both Macs and PCs. None of the four of us can connect on our own network, but on our neighbor’s, all of us can.

    Use system restore. Restore to an earlier date when u didn’t have the problem. It worked for me.

    Same problem. I thought it was because I am trying to connect to the US site from China, but am glad to have found this thread. I have had instances where I could connect and begin to downoad TV program I can’t get over here, but very inconsistent. I was blaming on my new iMac until I saw this.

    It would be nice if Apple would finally GET IT’S ACT TOGETHER!!!!!!!!!

    I just purchased my first iPod this evening and have spent the last 3 hours trying to get this thing to work with iTunes. I thought it was me or something to do with my computer due to the Network error message. I’ve used itunes previously so maybe I’ll try the sys restore mentioned before.

    I am in Western Australia – a new iPod user – downloaded the latest iTunes download and have never been able to access the store to download anything. I have emailed apple, and as others who have done the same, had no response (let alone a satisfactory one) ….. NOT good customer service!!!

    You might want to check that the date & time on your computer are set correctly. For some reason my date was changed and i think it was because i downloaded a new version of itunes.

    On Oct 24, could connect to itunes store in Pittsburgh PA on hotel wireless OK, on my arrival back in Australia on October 29, itunes is impossible to reach, “network times out”. Rubbish message, net is fine and firewalls were working OK with itunes before I left.

    wait . . . .i can buy stuff and acess my itunes store but i have itunes cards and when i try to redeem them the sign pops up. it says to check network connection. . . . hold on i just tryed to redeem an it worked so. . . .if the sign comes up try agian in 5 min.

    I was also having the same issue, I am a network Administrator, we are an ISP the connects dirrect to 123.net which is then connected through the level3 in Michigan. I was about to access ITunes store through our backup SBC connections with the newest version 7.5 and it now works through both connections.

    I’m in West Virginia, and I just recently bought an iTunes card from a local store. I got home, only to find, that this iTunes card was absolutely worthless. I’m still in the process of trying things to get it to work. I tried a system restore, pointless. I was planning on downloading $15 worth of music for my trip which is tomorrow, but since iTunes is obviously unavailable, I’m what you call an “Unhappy Camper.” I don’t know what the problem is, and I dont care what it is; just as long as they get it fixed and soon. If not, I suppose I will take higher action with the Apple company, since their support page won’t even load without an “Error Connecting” box appearing. This customer is very unsatisfied.

    I used itunes yesturday (25th Nov) in the UK on itunes 7.2, downloaded itunes 7.5 today (26th Nov) and now it isn’t working at all. So its the upgrade, well done apple…..again.

    Like most people, iTunes works on my laptop but not on my PC.
    I’ve tried system restore?? I get error 11113 . . .

    This is frustrating. I can access it on my laptop, but it requires me to authorize and deauthorize more than one computer and that takes . . . it is just SUCH a problem.

    I’ve had this problem also. I’ve been able to bypass it by using the links from the “New Music Tuesday” email I get from Apple. So I can link to the John Lennon videos, for example, from the email, then navigate to anything in itunes except the home page.

    I got this to work by adding the following website to the allowed websites in the Windows Vista Web Filter setting for the user who has parental controls enabled:

    Get to the setting by:

    Control Panel | User Accounts and Family | Setup Parental Controls for Any user | | Windows Vista Web Filter | Edit the Allow and Block List

    Once there, enter the above address and click the “Allow” button.

    User may need to log off / log back in to get the setting.

    I’m having the same problem. Whenever i try to go into the iTunes music store it says to make sure that my “network connection is active and try again”. I tried basically everything and nothing works. Everything else on my iTunes is working fine, I even downloaded the latest version of iTunes twice.

    I just spent (4)+ hours on the phone with 2 levels of technicians. We did every procedure in their book, restarting and trying iTunes each time. No luck. I was given a case number and told to take my 3-month old Mac Pro to the Apple Store.
    My wife’s iMac also has Leopard and works fine with iTunes, as does my G4 laptop with Tiger OS.
    Now that I know I am not alone, I guess I will wait for Apple to fix “OUR” problem.

    I am having the same problems, I cannot connect to itunes update server and i cannot connect to itunes store, I get error messages. I have been trying for two weeks since i got my ipod nano. At least I’m not the only one. But i can’t under stand why some people can get it,no problem and some can’t. Does anyone know when apple or time warner or whoever is going to fix this???

    Does anyone have any idea when this problem might be fixed? I’m pretty sick of going onto iTunes in the hope it would be sorted, only to get disappointed again! So any kind of timescale would be appreciated (that is, if anyone has managed to get any information from Apple or the like).

    It seems to me that it would be in Apples interests to sort this out quickly – noone is downloading from iTunes!

    Not been able to get onto itunes for over a week now getting hacked off with it all now. Should just take the new 16gb touch back to the shop and get a different make. Cant believe the geeks cant pull there finger out and get it sorted. Would of thought they might want to get it fixed must be costing them a bit in sales by now. Ive started to recommend to friends not to get the new itouch as i did and not been able to use it because of this problem

    It lets me connect to the itunes store but it won’t let me sign in, buy anything, or redeem my gift card. All i can do is browse the store. I got a gift card for Christmas and I still haven’t been able to redeem it. I’ve tried everything suggested on the apple website and Itunes store help, nothing worked.

    What’s funny is if I don’t pay my bill, I can’t access the internet at all, and if I do, Time Warner/Level 3/Apple’s incompetency prevents me from getting anything much better. It’s my second day using a TW connection. I already can’t access the iTunes store, at all, nor can I run upgrades on any of my anti virus/spyware programs. All of this is occurring exactly in sync with my ISP switch.

    Well, let’s just use the one thing corporations ever do respond to, bad publicity. Encourage others not to use these ISPs, or any of Apple’s overhyped, overpriced, short bus applications, then maybe one day I can use the interwebs again.

    It lets me connect to the store and preview all of the songs and stuff. But then when i go to purchase the song it says make sure your network connection is active and try again. i really want to buy a song and now i can’t. They better fix this soon. It just started for me today though. Weird

    I had the same problem. Tried to buy the new Foo Fighters album just now, but the link wouldn’t load. Trying the “buy album” button gave the same error at the top of this page. Then I clicked the slow link again to access the album page and left it for a five minutes. When I came back it loaded and the buy button worked! I was prompted to accept some new terms of service agreement though. weird.

    on the 26th jan treated myself to ipod touch turned my itunes on it said new update which i did . now i can listen to my libray but cannot get into itunes store says my internet might not be active but it is fine. so is there nothing i can do. i notice this is all over the world ,i am in guernsey channel islands

    Yep, same thing is happening to me as well.

    I was running the older version of iTunes, upgraded to iTunes 7.6 when I formatted and reinstalled my OS and now not only can I not connect to the store, I cant authorise my PC to play all the music i legally downloaded…

    And they wonder why more and more people are against DRM on music downloads, when paying customers are penalised like this.

    I upgraded to 10.5.2 and Take 2. Then I could not connect to the itunes store and login to my itunes account. WHen synching my AppleTV I also get a time out with the store. I can however surf the internet, open the store and listen to 30 sec music trailers etc. Only I get authorisation conflicts because I cannot connect to the store for this. Apple helpdesk also don’t know what to do. On the discussion forum I met a lot of people with the same problem. This drives me crazy.
    Any solutions?

    I had the same problem after windows and other updates ran on my computer, I couldn’t access the ITunes store, received error message that my connection had timed out. I un-installed my symnatec anti-virus program and un-installed ITunes 7.6. Re-installed ITunes first, then re-installed Symnatec and everything is working just fine. Hopes this helps someone. Be sure you have your product code to reinstall your antivirus software.

    My computer has 4 different accounts on it, 2 of which are administrators. I, unfortunately, am not an administrator. I was having problems accessing the store at all with my prior itunes version, used the handy-dandy internet to find a solution and so updated the 7.6 version, the newest one. I am still having the problem, but my account is the only one affected on this computer. The internet settings, diagnostics, and files all appear to be fine and are giving no one else troubles. I’ve heard of people with an issue on one computer out of many on the same network, but none with my particular case. Decided to get it out there to see if anyone else was having this issue and not reporting it. My searches on the internet are fruitless and are beginning to get on my nerves. Answers anyone?
    p.s. I’m on Windows XP Professional Edition with Service Pack 1. Computer is a HP Pavillion tower from forever ago.

    This issue is not affecting me too. I had the old version of ITUNES and then upgraded to the newest offering so I could download movies. Now there is no connectivitiy to the store and but I can get out to the web an visit their website just fine.

    What the hell is the issue. By the look of these threads it appears that some customers have been experiencing this issue since as early as 2006.

    I also have had this problem for a time. Running Vista ultimate and Norton antivirus. I just turned the personal firewall off in Norton and connected straight through. Make sure you turn it back on though.

    This isn’t a Windows issue, or an issue with anythiong on the user side. This is an Apple problem.
    I’m running OSX 10.4.11 on a 2×2.66 GHz Dual-core Intel Xenon Mac. No personal firewall, no Norton, no SAV. Have current iTunes. Only running OSX Apps and Adobe CS3. I stay updated and my system runs clean, no sideline or backdoor apps. I haven’t been able to connect to iTunes for months.

    iTunes store, problem I used to be able to access the store through my LAN network, but not now …is not available, check your network bla bla bla. Its obviously been a long running fault and its all with Apple they just don’t give a toss. Apples Idea of customer care.. its your fault, and look how good we are doing so it must be your fault. All to hide obvious faults with their software that they don’t admit to.
    I may be old fashioned but I always thought excluding customers and in general peeing them off was a bad idea. Get an iPhone, that needs you to connect to the apple …not if itunes can help it , get an ipod same thing, what does Apple do ?,

    Apple has odd business practices which I believe will bring it down in the end, Microsoft wont need to lift a finger. They are forgetting the cardinal rules “The customer is always right, The customer comes first” my problem is their problem my problem should have clear and concise help available if we say we have a problem the answer should be ” no problem fixed it”, I should not have to trawl the net for assistance to find nothing. If Apple want us to only access their software through their hardware thats fine, just don’t offer it to anyone who does not have that hardware. Keep it to the 5 or 10 million Apple mac users and the 1.3 billion PC owners can find their own solution to download music . I’m sure even Apple can do the math!

    I have not been able to access the store to buy for months now. I have two pcs and neither can access itunes store. I am waiting to buy an iphone but won’t do that as it will be a waste of time if I can’t access itunes.

    What a shambles! I have been considering going MAC as I am fed up with PCs/windows problems but Apple has gone right down in my estimation and that is off the agenda as well now. Are they idiots not to recognise this problem and do something about it?!

    Make sure your network connection is active and try again.

    I messed with the firewall, reinstalled iTunes, and checked my network connection. No dice.

    Interestingly enough, I downloaded some songs (legally) and also can’t move them into iTunes. I have no idea if it’s related, but both of these are a first.

    Update: I called Norton Virus removal and for $100 they remotely connected to my computer and ran their virus removal tool. Took off about 15 unrecognized registry (possible viruses) and then restarted and went to iTunes and connected no problem. I’m not sure if the iTunes update 7 put the faulty registry on my computer or not but we removed them and good to go.

    Same problem here, have not been able to connect to store since 3 weeks. I’m not running Norton and I don’t think that is the problem. I got it to work last night by connecting my laptop to another ISP.

    To review; Changed ISP about 3 weeks ago, updated to new itunes software also in this time frame. Itunes store stopped working. Connected computer to a friend’s ISP was able to access the store and buy music.

    This seems to be a problem between some ISPs and itunes software. Why this is taking so long to fixs is anyones guess! Never have owned anything made by Apple, first item was an iPod, then downloaded itunes software.

    I’m not impressed by the software or hardware and even less by support. This problems been around since Oct 2006! Bill and the boys would have done a much better job…

I did have an old version of ITunes on my backup computer which I previously authorized but it made no difference. I followed the technote to delete the SC files. Perhaps its time to go on a reg hack.

    I did notice an issue after calming down. My ISP switched from Roadrunner to Comcast since the last time I used my backup computer. The backup computer still references my old RoadRunner accout. I need to dig in and change this. I think a reg hack is still the only answer.

    I currently run two computers in the same room, using the same internet connection.
    One computer now has the “could not connect” message, but the other connects normally every time. This suggests to me that the issue is within the PC itself rather than an external server.
    The only difference between them is that the first (non working) connects to the router using wireless, and the working one is cable connected.
    Is it possible that either an iTunes update or XP update (SP3?) is somehow switched-off/disrupted the connection settings of iTunes?

    Will this problem never end….. Come on Apple lets fix this thing.. This is not a hardware/computer problem. This has something to do with the networking software and iTune software.

    To recap: I’m using a laptop running Windows XP. If I connect the computer to my line at home I’m not able to connect to itune store. If I connect using a friends line I can connect. This suggest that the problem is between my ISP’s networking software and Itunes.

    Give us some help on this, or the next time Apple has a meeting we’ll all show up with these useless Ipods…

    If I’m on wireless, I can connect to the apple store and play radio programs over my iTunes program, but if I connect the internet cable and my computer switches over to “built-in ethernet”, then I can not connect to Mac Updates or the iTunes Store, and I cannot play streaming tunes over the radio link in iTunes. It used to work fine over the ethernet cable, but now it doesn’t. I can’t figure out what’s wrong with it. My wife’s macbook works fine over the ethernet cable, but my macbook pro does not.

    Hello – I had this problem as well and just found the fix – I checked and my firewall had decided not to allow Itunes a connection anymore. I changed the settings to allow it and now I can access the store again – hope this helps you all.

    just “upgraded” from dial-up on my mac mini to cable based broadband- nice to find I’m not alone with these new problems- I cannot access itunes (get the no connection message) and also cannot download any software updates from apple- curiously, I also get an error message from Amazon when I try to download mp3′s from them as well- added a belkin router between my cable line and mac mini at the same time- so that could be a contributing factor- will fiddle with the router/cable combo and advise group if any success– at least with dialup after an hour I got my song!

    after dealing with this issue myself for some time, I have found, as have others, that this is a FIREWALL ISSUE; I have norton, I turned off the “personal firewall” and the itunes store was accessible immediately; my problem started when, like others, I was forced to download a newer itunes version in order to purchase the music I wanted; something about this new itunes version 7.6 has an incompatibility issue with the norton software and the itunes store is automatically inaccessible with a misleading “network connection” message; one warning, disable the personal firewall permanently, or you will find that you are blocked again as soon as your time limit expires for which you turned it off; hope this helps others;

    So, I go online to iTunes store to browse a few things only to be constantly forced to connect to my iTunes application on my computer for search results.

    What the hell is Apple doing? Why am I unable to view TV shows etc on the iTunes webpage without having my iTunes application forced to load an error out? Apple have really sucked big time on this application.

    And they offer zero support to fix the problems.

    you are welcome; for many of you this could be a simple fix; if you are having this problem, disable the “personal firewall” in your Norton protection software (if you have it) and see if you are able to access the itunes store; if it works for you, the fix will time out, unless you disable it permanently; this is and itunes upgrade problem that is requiring the end user to be responsible to fix;

    I am in Brazil and I’m having the same problem and even with help from Apple Chat I could connect to the store: disable firewall, deleted all protection from spywares and vires, created a new user acocunt, flushed DNS, deleted and re-installed the Itune, updated to 8.0 adn nothing solved my problem.

    I can’t figure out what else to do and this has driving me crazy for 3 months in row, the strange thing is that I have friends with inferior comps and using Dial-Up networks can go to Itunes Store.

    I will pay the first person to solve this problem just send me the answer to this question and the bank account!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    ok, I tried all what this forum said and have been looking forever it seems to fix my problem.

    My ipod mini(yes it’s old and I love it) did something weird. It says I have no music on my ipod. When I plug it into my computer iTunes says it doesn’t have any music. However, when I see what’s on it, the invisible files on it, I see all my music. I would like to reformat it if that would help but it won’t let me. I tried to connect my ipod and get an update but my itunes said I don’t have internet. I update itunes to the latest and it still says I have no internet connection.

    I would like to configure my itunes to recognize my wireless internet but for some reason it just wont, it recognizes my network adapter but it just doesn’t connect.

    I did turn off my firewall, anti-virus and still it doesn’t work. Please someone give me some advice.

I hadn’t had a problem for well over a year prior to this. After trying desperately to find a solution and after reading many many many threads with all kinds of suggestions, I tried the one in this thread – go to your Norton Internet Security and turn off the Personal Firewall (not that I’m sure I should be comfortable I should be with this) but wham…..Its back.

    I’m glad, but still pissed that it took this long to find it. Good luck to all, I feel everyone’s pain….can’t wait to see what happens when I download the next latest version. I suspect I’ll be back. Thanks to those who posted the recommendation.

    I Have tried EVERYTHING.

    This is VERY irrating, considering i just bought the new ipod nano G4, and an itunes card, and i cannot buy anything.

    Just today, I went into an apple store, and talked to someone, they told me to uninstall the apps in my menu. And reinstall it.
    WHAT!?! I have no option of that anyway, i have no idea what she was talking about.

I finally founded what was the problem… I have Firefox and Explorer, and is seems that Itunes 8.0 uses the Explorer to connect. I always use firefox and i could conect perfectly to internet but this afternoon i tried to open the explorer and it wasn’t working, so I fixed it and SURPRISE!!! the itunes store finally works!!!

    I am really really annoyed now, iTunes was working fine on the version I had before I uploaded the new version for my iPod touch, as the iPod touch required the latest version of iTunes. I am trying to do the thing with Norton but Norton isn’t responding at the moment. I am also annoyed because I have a £45 gift voucher, and I can’t spend it! iTunes support really need to do something about this, how can they expect thousands of people not able to access the Store? All they’re doing is sitting back ignoring this problem. Thanks for the people who are trying to solve this problem, unlike Apple! I’ll be trying the Norton thing soon.

    i had the same problem of connecting to iTunes and i kinda worked it out. firstly i used to have Norton anti virus on my system and it was slowing down my system so i removed it and downloaded a free ware version 5.8 of Webroot Desktop Firewall. it works great. then i added Quick time player application to the Windows Firewall Exceptions panel and i have no problem now

    I traded in my old 30GVideo Ipod (bad battery) for a refurb. when I got hope, I logged in and Dloaded my library. No problem. the next day, I tried to access the itunes store and got the network connection timed out. check your settings message. this was before Xmas 2008!!
    Since then, I’ve spent hours with 2 levels of Apple tech support, and deleted and re-installed Itunes more times than I can remember. No one has an answer, and now I can’t access AIM6. I’ve restored the laptop to original settings and still no good!! Looking for an answer, but getting ready to dump it all!!

    Hvae had this problem for about 3 months now on my laptop. Old desktop is still able to access store etc., even after upgrade. Laptop can’t connect through wifi or when connected directly to modem.

    Checked firewall (Norton). Still didn’t work. Turned off firewall. Still didn’t work. Used Norton removal tool to completely scrub Norton from computer (subscription was expiring anyway). Still doesn’t work. Have done all the other little things I’ve run across — automatically detect network settings, etc., etc.

    I don’t mind not spending money at the i-Tunes store. That’s no bother. But because i-Tunes won’t recognize my internet connection, I can’t enable my laptop to play all of the music I’ve bought through i-Tunes for the past 4 years or so.

    Since my i-Pod is starting to go on the fritz after years of use and abuse itself, I’m thinking that I’m done with Apple media products now. If they can’t get this sorted — or even acknowledge that there’s a problem — after 2 1/2 years, screw ‘em.

    And the Experience Music Project is a Seattle eyesore, so Mr. Allen can stuff himself.

    After reading one of the posts above, I decided to open a new user account (with administrator access) on my laptop. Installed i-Tunes as that user, and everything works. Logged back in as original user, and store didn’t work again. WTF?

    At any rate, I can access my purchased music again, and will never buy from i-Tunes again. Woo hoo!

    Here’s the thing: Apple is obviously sneaking around on our computer’s “behind our backs” while using the iTunes Store. When the program does that, it sometimes changes settings, fouling up the internet connection. That’s the only explanation left. Sometimes its Norton Firewall, which inexplicably starts blocking iTunes (Why? because the program most likely tried to access your computer illegally), sometimes it’s a router issue, sometimes its’ this and sometimes its’ that … and Apple is not at all interested in “fixing” the problem. Why? BECAUSE IT AIN’T BROKE (for them, at least). They are perfectly happy screwing a small percentage of users as long as their “Apple Store” has proprietary access to whatever it is doing to your computer’s operating system without your knowledge. If you want an iPod or iTouch you better be prepared for Big Brother Apple to screw with your computer illegally. Don’t bother complaining to Apple. They don’t care. Don’t bother complaining to the government, they don’t care either. A lot of politicians use Apple political donations to get re-elected. Capiche?

    Let’s wait and see how long it will take to have a proper and official solution or answer within this topic :-(

    Long story short, my computer had two firewall programs operating, (Windows and Trend Micro, PC-Chillin). PC-Chillin was blocking the store.

    Once I removed Trend-Micro’s program, I was IMMEDIATELY able to connect to the store.

    I’ve had to restore my computer back to factory settings. I’ve tried SEVERAL times to download iTunes but i just get the same message:

    “Internet Explorer cannot download iTunesSetup.exe from appldnld.apple.com.edgesuite.net. The connection was reset. ”

    Now i have researched this and tried all the suggestion on the internet. Now when i do try to download i dont get the message anymore. But i dont get a download window either showing my how long i have left before the file has completely downloaded ! Can anyone help me ?

    I cannot access the iTunes store or the iTunes tuning service (for listening to web radio). I cannot connect to Software Update, either. But I am afraid it is not an ISP problem. You see, we have three other computers in the house (an aluminum MacBook, a white Intel MacBook, a three-year old iMac and a 5-year old PowerBook G4 all hooked up to the Internet via a wireless network). All of them, save the white MacBook can connect to iTunes and to Software Update. They are all running Jaguar 10.5.7 and NONE of them has any kind of anti-virus installed. So why is the white MacBook not connecting?

    By the way, it is ridiculous that this thread started in 2006 and no solutions have been provided.

    A solution that worked for me!! I hope it will help others, at least those who are connecting to the web through AirPort on a Mac. Go to Network Preferences and then click on Advanced. Select the 802.1X tab and make sure nothing is ticked in the Authentication window. For some reason, my Authentication window had both TTLS and TLS ticked. I unticked those and voilà: I regained communication with the iTunes store and Software Update also began working again.

    I hope this is useful for at least some of you.

    I keep getting the -2096 error, and the (11222) error at the same time. My internet connection is working fine (ethernet on white macbook) but I can’t connect to the itunes store! It was fine a few months ago and I have no idea why it suddenly stopped working. I’ve looked every where on the internet and I found a few answers such as flushing the DNS cache, changing network locations, downloading newer versions of quicktime and itunes, and trying the answers apple gives. But not a single one has worked! The (11222) error disappeared but the -2096 one is still there.

    I had the problem and found that it was an issue with my Norton Firewall. Under the Programs tab the setting for iTunes was set to BLOCK ALL. I changed it to PERMIT ALL and everything worked fine. Check your firewall settings..

    Ok i was having the same annoying problem and just fixed it after god knows how long…

    all i did was this: went to Itunes preferences, and then to the PARENTAL tab, and unclicked (unchecked) the under ‘DISABLE” the Shared Libraries box…

    THIS SOLVED MY PROBLEM and i was able to update my music and that pesky error message went to hell…

    Okay so i think i know the exact moment that my itunes got messed up, i was on a page on apple that had lots of the small circular flags on it and accidentaly clicked one that wasnt the uk and this was then the loading sign first apeard and has not got away, It now displayes ONE MOMENT PLEASE , connecting to itunes store… LOADING………………………………. when i try to connect to the store. Iv been trying everything from firewall settings anti virus host files you name it even hunting down the little uk flag in hopes that that could solve things and re direct it or something!! but to no avail!! iv even uninstalled i tunes and still the dreaded sign which will never load! This has been going on for a while now, and i can see lots of other people on forums having similar problems, can anyone who has some insight to mine and many other problems help! or someone from apple whos job it is get off their buts!! or i most certainly will form a boycott for apple products and downloads, theres no way im buying an i pad just for i tunes or something else to muck up like this has and have apple hide away from it. sorry everyone for sounding uber grumpy! only when iv pumped so much money into apple over the years it would be nice for things to run properly!!! dosent that seem fair?!

    i went to my computer..went to c drive
    went to users and selected mine….then selected the music…then there were two files one called music samples and the other was itunes i think… i simply deleded them both!!
    and hey presto at trying to open itunes and click on the store ita ll works…i am now about to start the re uploading of all my music but it needed a good clear out i think anyway (i awlays keep a few backups of my music so its just a case of drag and drop…. :D
    I realy do hope this helps some of you but defo if you can use the older version of itunes if you want to access the store and are having that much stress at fixing it

    I have tried numerous solutions…disabling firewall and antivirus…then unistalling the programs reinstalling itunes but to no avail…I created another user but no matter what I did NOTHING WORKED…i even called apple who told me to either reinstall itunes or send them an email.

    I was eventually able to connect to the itunes store by using an internet browser instead of my usual way (through my computer’s itunes executable that I set up when I first started using itunes).

    Go to http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/

    Scroll down to the bottom and click on “Buy Music Now.” It should be in the last column on the right. Hopefully, it works for everyone else too. I guess I’ll just have to “bookmark” the link above and use that all the time now.

    Have not been able to connect to the store for weeks. I’ve tried every fix anyone recommends. The problem is on the PC running OSX,. following an attempted upgrade to iTunes 9.1.1. The Mac laptop (running 9.1.0.79) still works.

    The solution for me was check the time and date. when updated itunes, for some reason, it changed the date on my laptop, and iphone as well. changed to the right date, and everything works fine now.

    Ok i had the SAME Problem but this fixed it for me. I uninstalled iTunes and installed iTunes 8.2 and it started working for me :) Hope It Helps Someone Out!!!

    Fixed it as follows on my Mac:

    - Open network preferences
    - Edit locations
    - Create new location
    - Apply

    Note that switching location from Automatic to the fixed location I created previously did not help, but creating a new location did work.

    WTF. I bought iTunes cards and when I go to redeem it gives me an error. This is Bullsh*t. And I don’t understand why all the customers have to FIND ways around the errors they have been getting. This is Apple’s job to fix these problems that have been happening for a few years now. I don’t understand how they get so much profit and give crappy service. I’m livid about wasting so much money on iTunes cards.
