ImageWell

November 19, 2005

ImageWell is a nice utility for web developers and others who deal with image sizes and data. ImageWell provides an easy way to scale an image, compress an image, and then upload via FTP or a .Mac account or save it to your Mac. ImageWell makes it so easy for bloggers/web developers scale and image, so you don’t have to write extra code, and helps the image look clearer when viewing on a low-resolution monitor.

ImageWell also comes with nice tools, like cartoon animations, and cookie-cutters, which help your pictures get some character and humor. One important part missing from ImageWell, is the formats you are allowed to save as. In ImageWell, you get a choice of JPG, PNG, or TIFF formats. GIF is not fully supported with ImageWell so you might lose transparency, and GIF is a popular format for fast web-viewing. I see this as a feature that may come in future versions, but for now you can only use JPG, PNG, and TIFF formats. This application will still help you with the supported formats, and makes it very easy to scale and compress images.
